Dead Snow
While American horror continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel with franchise and J-horror remakes, thank Thor that our Scandinavian forebears are keeping it real with innovative titles like Dead Snow, in which a cabin full of sex-crazed teenagers falls prey to a platoon of Nazi zombies on a blood bender. To be fair, the concept of undead servants of the Third Reich is nothing new, especially in the broader world of video games where one can decimate limitless hoards of walking dead stormtroopers with vintage World War II weapons (see Call of Duty). But horror comedy is in short supply these days, and Dead Snow promises a healthy dose of both the laughs and red stuff. If Dead Snow can do for zombies what neighboring Sweden’s Let the Right One In recently did for vampires, Scandinavia might be the new source of horror we have all been waiting for.
