W
W. Directed by Oliver Stone. Starring Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Ionn Gruffudd, Richard Dreyfuss.
Holy smokes. Seeing the trailer for W I’m not sure whether to laugh or seek drugs to numb the horror I feel having lived in America for the last eight years with George W. Bush as our President. The preview for Oliver Stone’s latest film seems to herald that history will not be kind to George the younger. On the other hand, Stone can be surprisingly thoughtful about the subjects he approaches, including those people whose politics and characters he stands decidedly against. Past experience has shown his skill at painting compelling and often nuanced portraits of popular figures and W looks to show us the prehistory of Bush all but forgotten amidst the numerous wars and disasters befallen our country under his reign. Likely there is no coincidence that this picture appears only weeks before voters are asked to choose between new leadership or a continuation of the Republican regime. - Demon
